Looking ahead to 2010
This coming year is a General Synod year, and over the next few months we will (hopefully) find out more about the direction the church is heading nationally. At the last General Synod in 2007 the members of Synod asked that the Council of General Synod (which "governs" the church between synods) look at marriage in the Anglican Church, and changes to our Canons (rules) to reflect the gender neutral nature of marriage in Canada. Unfortunately the diversity of views prevented those charged with this from being able to agree on any path forward, and the COGS has decided that what we need is not the vision of GS2007, but yet more study.
Integrity Vancouver and Integrity Canada will be represented at General Synod again this year (Halifax, June 3-11), and you will hear more in the new year about this. We left Winnipeg in 2007 hopeful that we were moving forward. What happens now at General Synod may depend on new motions coming from Diocesan Synods.

Integrity Vancouver is a local expression of the international gay and lesbian Christian movement supporting an inclusive Anglican church, a place of welcome for all people, particularly those who have been excluded or even shunned by the church because of their sexual orientation or gender identification.
In the Anglican Diocese of New Westminster (including metro Vancouver, the Fraser Valley, and the Sunshine Coast), the Integrity community has been active for almost 30 years, providing a safe place for lesbian and gay Christians to worship and socialize, and calling our larger church family to live into our shared baptismal commitment to "respect the dignity of every human being."
Integrity members are also privileged to have supported the decision by our local diocese to provide a blessing rite for same-sex couples! We'd be happy to introduce you to a Proud Anglican parish parish that welcomes all God's children, gay and straight!
Integrity Vancouver meets each month, and visitors are always welcome. On the first Sunday of each month we gather for worship at 7 PM in the chancel of St. Paul's Anglican Church in Vancouver's West End (Pendrell and Jervis) followed by coffee, cookies, and warm conversation. We also gather on a roughly quarterly basis with a local Anglican parish for a Eucharist and potluck meal, and we participate in annual Pride events and the Queer Film Festival.
